Rhythm's Made of Spring

My sister, Katelyn and I

Recently it feels like Spring is on it's way. The daffodils are out and the trees are starting to blossom. I can't wait till Summer is here! Sunny days on the beach with friends, camping on the beach, NO SCHOOL, summer fashion, gelato.... What more is there to ask for?

Octavarium

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Progressive Rock is not usually my thing... But after being forced by my boyfriend to listen to "Octavarium" by Dream Theatre I was surprised that I didn't hate it. Don't get me wrong though, it was a bit tedious listening to all 20 something minutes(!) of the song and there were a few guitar solos that went for just that bit too long. What I was impressed with was that the song never got boring considering how long it is! Whoever wrote the song managed to keep the music interesting but maintaining the feeling all at the same time.

However, I think that I'm going to be sticking to my Indie and Singer/Songwriter... Don't worry John Mayer and Lykke Li, I haven't forgotten you just yet!

Off to TYO (Taranaki Youth Orchestra) practice...

I'm wearing my new op shop pants that I bought yesterday. As you can see I've cut them into shorts. The material is quite unusual, in between a suede and moleskin but they are very soft.

Putting On the Ritz! (Remix)

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I had a half day at school today, which means a perfect excuse to go op shopping! I went with my crazy but lovely friend Emma who knows New Plymouths op shops inside and out... I found a small white metal mesh(?) handbag, a pair of cream coloured trousers (which I've cut into shorts) and a Shaggy tape- Boombastic anyone?! so that I can play it in Emma's car. Yes, her car has a tape player!
Plus, Emma and I were one of the few people to have a green tea and mint frappe because it's not even on the menu yet! Sadly enough, the Starbucks people are getting to know us personally... We must be spending too much time there... Haha!

I'm Good, I'm Gone

What I'm listening to:
Oh so catchy and oh so random.... But that's what I love about her, there's always something quirky about her. I like how she incorporates different instruments into lots of her music such as the harmonica (in video) and a retro tape player (also in video).

By the way, is that Robyn?

Procrastination, you are not welcome here

Sunday, August 22, 2010

I think I have a talent for procrastinating. I've managed to get through most of the day without studying for exams... My procrastination has become so bad that I've even cleared out all of my old documents on the computer that I don't need. If anyone's got a cure for this, I'd love to hear it!

Wear Your Music

Carlos Santana

Jack Johnson

John Mayer

I've just discovered possibly one of the coolest charities ever! Have you ever wondered what musicians do with their old guitar strings?? Well, guitarists such as Carlos Santana, Jack Johnson and John Mayer (my favourites) donate their old strings to wearyourmusic.org and these are turned into bracelets. You can buy these bracelets from $50-$500 and the money goes towards a charity of the artists choice. The great thing about this site is that you get to support a charity while getting something for yourself!

There's Something in the Water...

Saturday, August 21, 2010

What I'm listening to:

"There's Something in The Water"
This song has been on repeat all day and I think it gets better every time! Brooke Fraser is one of my favourite artists and I don't seem to ever get bored of her music... When I first heard her new single I was surprised about the Bluegrass feel of the song but now I'm quite liking it. This is quite upbeat for her don't you think?

I've seen her live when she came to New Plymouth on her Albertine Tour a couple of years ago and also at Parachute Music Festival a couple of times. There's something about her that makes everyone love her... Maybe it's because she's beautiful, has an amazing voice, is so talented and down to earth...
